ReLEx SMILE is a minimally invasive procedure using a femtosecond laser to create a small, lens-shaped piece of tissue (lenticule) within the cornea. The lenticule is then removed through a small incision, changing the cornea's shape and correcting the refractive error. The surgery is ideal for those with thin corneas, dry eyes, contact sports players, or professions unsuitable for LASIK or PRK. Patients need to be over 18 years old and have a stable prescription for at least a year.
Before your surgery, a comprehensive eye examination is conducted to measure your refractive error and assess your overall eye health. You'll be advised to discontinue wearing contact lenses for a period of 3-7 days before the assessment and surgery. The day before the surgery, avoid using any makeup, creams, or perfumes to minimize the risk of infection.
The ReLEx SMILE procedure involves making a small incision in the cornea without creating a corneal flap. The femtosecond laser is used to precisely create and remove the lenticule, reshaping the cornea and correcting the refractive error. The surgery is usually completed within 15 minutes for both eyes, and it's painless due to numbing eye drops.
Post-surgery, you'll be given protective eyewear to shield your eyes from light and dust. Patients may experience some discomfort or a foreign body sensation in the eye, which usually resolves within a few days. Most patients return to their normal activities within a few days after surgery. Regular follow-up appointments are essential to monitor the healing process.
ReLEx SMILE surgery in Thailand costs between $2,000 to $3,000 for both eyes. This includes fees for the procedure, nurse service, doctor's fee, eye exam, medication and post-surgery follow-ups.

Many thanks to Konkai. After an online inquiry Konkai guided me to Praram9 orthopedic for a consultation on a hip injury. I had the consultation, clearly a femeral head collapse and needing the hip joint replacement. The beauty was in a half day full consultation, x-ray, ekg, blood work, chest exam ... everything needed to proceed with surgery was done.
This was so professionally and efficiently done, all questions answered, no consultants, no referrals etc., all in house, all guided around the hospital. A friendly caring class act. So I then came back to Konkai to setup for the operation, with the same orthopedic team led by Dr. Peerapong that made the assessment. I returned 2 weeks later, admitted, had the replacement operation stayed 5 days with the hospital team, and quite frankly, it was a privilege to be in their care.
Now after 10 days recovery in Bangkok i am ready to return home. Why Thailand, well in my country New Zealand, you get passed around to specialists, consultants, it all takes time, does not engender trust, and i think the profit motive is primary like the American system. Further, there are less facilities so more waiting for slots. Thailand has a care culture, and the expertise and professionalism with Konkai and Praram9 is superb. They have top quality facilities and capacity to fit your schedule.
