Not all facelifts are created equal. The technique your surgeon recommends depends on your specific concerns, the degree of aging, and how long you want results to last. Understanding your options helps you have a more informed consultation.
The deep plane facelift is considered the gold standard technique. Unlike other techniques, the deep plane facelift will also move the deeper SMAS layer instead of separating the skin from the underlying muscle done in other techniques.
Moving the deeper layers means better blood flow preservation, more natural tissue repositioning and creates a longer lasting result that usually lasts for 10-15 years.
Best for: Patients seeking maximum longevity. Typically for ages 50-70 with moderate to severe facial againg.
Recovery: 2-4 weeks before returning to public activities. Final results visible at 3-6 months.
Longevity: 10-15 years
Cost: $4,500 - $10,000
The SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) has been the industry standard for decades. It targets the fibrous tissue layer beneath your skin, tightening and repositioning this structure to lift the lower face, jawline and neck.
Best for: Moderate aging signs, jowls, neck laxity, patients with good skin elasticity. Typically ideal for ages 45-65.
Recovery: 2-3 weeks in total but most patients return to work within 7-10 days.
Longevity: 5-12 years depending lifestyle factors
Cost in Thailand: $4,000-$5,600
Sometimes called a "weekend facelift", the mini facelift addresses early signs of aging with smaller incisions and faster recovery. It focuses on the lower face and jawline but can not correct significant sagging or neck concerns.
Best for: Early aging signs in patients aged 35-55, those wanting a subtle improvement or patients not ready for a full facelift.
Recovery: 7-10 days. Most patients return to work within a week.
Longevity: 5-7 years.
Cost in Thailand: $2,590-$3,700
For patients not ready for surgery, or those wanting to maintain the results of their previous facelift, there are also non-surgical options available in Thailand.
Thread lift: Uses dissolvable threads to create a subtle lift. Results last for 1-3 years and the downtime is very minimal (24-48 hours). Cost of this procedure is $1,500 to $3,500. Learn more →
Liquid facelift: This procedure combines dermal fillers with neuromodulators (Botox) to restore volume and smooth wrinkles. Results last for 6-24 months with no downtime. Costs depends on the brand and quantity of fillers and botox used, but generally between $1,000 and $5,000.

Doing a facelift procedure in Thailand requires approximately 10-14 days from arrival to departure. Here's what the timeline typically looks like for clients flying in from abroad.
4-6 weeks before: Schedule a virtual consultation through Konkai. Share photos, discuss your goals, and receive preliminary surgeon recommendations and pricing.
2-4 weeks before: Complete any required medical clearances in your home country. Stop smoking (critical for healing). Discontinue blood thinners, aspirin, and certain supplements as advised by the doctor.
1 week before: Finalise travel arrangements with flexible return dates. Pack comfortable clothing and prepare for your recovery.
When can you fly home?
There is a minimum of 7-10 days post-surgery but most surgeons will advise 10-14 days or longer if possible.
Flying too early increases swelling, discomfort and risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). You should always wait until the surgeon has cleared you to fly which will be done during the follow-up appointments.

Today's deep plane and SMAS approaches reposition underlying tissues, not just skin, creating results that move naturally and settle into your facial expressions. You'll look like a refreshed, younger version of yourself. Not like someone who's had work done.

Benefits: single anaesthesia session, one recovery period, cost savings, and more harmonious results. Your surgeon will advise whether combination surgery is appropriate for your health profile.
